I like the cartoon because it’s funny but like so much good comedy, I find I’m actually laughing at my own failings. These thoughts link in with much of our teaching last weekend, Eileen’s baptism and also Judges 4&5 where we were thinking about Unfinished Business (see below). If baptism speaks of the death of the old way of life and a new life in Christ, what am I holding above the water?
Thankfully our salvation is not about what we do, it is about what Christ has done for us on the cross. However, none of us are the finished article. We are ‘works in progress’, being conformed to the likeness of Jesus and surely our prayer should be, ‘Lord I come to you, let my heart be changed.’
The other big question that will be troubling many is ‘what would I know about good comedy?’ If these thoughts persist, I shall be forced to tell one of my jokes and that will be no laughing matter!
