Tonight we take the Raze group to Barry Island Quasar. Raze is a youth group for young people aged 11 and over. They normally meet on Thursdays from 8-9.30 pm during term times. The evening usually consists of games, (the favourite being Dodge Ball) and a break for drinks and chocolate on sale from Dan. The older teenagers are happy to sit and chat. We tend to run at least one trip per term.
If you have never seen Quasar, it’s played in a large warehouse type room, with strange shaped obstacles and flashing lights. The players are divided into 2 teams and equipped with energy packs worn on the chest and back and a laser gun. The idea is for the teams to shoot at each other and all the hits are counted by a computer. If you are hit by an opponent’s laser gun, your own gun stops working and your pack vibrates for a few seconds.
Leaders who are old enough to know better have been known to actually play Quasar and try to shoot their laser guns at the young people that are in their care. Let us hope that the excitement is not too much for the old chaps.
