Things are a bit surreal this week as its half term. It gives a chance for those who have been flat out, in the church activities, to have a well earned rest and get their breath back. It isn’t a complete break of course as there will be plenty of things to do, Genesis for instance have a ‘Night Hike’ followed by a ‘Lock-in’ on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
There is an incident in Mark’s Gospel when things were really hectic for the Lord Jesus and his disciples;
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” (Mark 6:31-32)
This shows us a few things;
1. Rest is good; Jesus recognised the need for it and encouraged rest.
2. Its clear from the following verses that the only rest to be had was on the journey itself. That’s ok because if we are travelling with Jesus, everything will be fine.
If you have a chance this week, take the opportunity to have a break, after all it will be Christmas before we have another!
