Yes we’ve stopped calling it a ‘sleepover’ since for most people taking part; sleep is something to be avoided at all costs. There were a few changes this year, firstly, for the first time, some of the guys from PCY took part, secondly, we walked a new route and finally, we had enough younger leaders to enable Jackie and myself to leave at about 3.30am and catch a few hours sleep. Hallelujah!
The new route started at what used to be the Three Horse Shoes public house in Tonteg. We walked the path that runs parallel to the new by-pass which meant a walk of just over five miles. As you will see from the map, the by-pass and the foot path are yet to be included on Google Maps though they have managed to place Pontyclun as a suburb of Beddau! The route had some advantages; there were no steep climbs, no rough ground and no mud. There was a considerable decrease in the level of complaints which is always good, although the heavens did open on us a few times and not in a good way.
Supper was ready when we arrived at Eb, thanks to Jackie and Carol, and huge quantities of hot dogs and hot soup were consumed. During the night the time was spent watching films, playing on the Xbox etc.
When we arrived just after 8am, some who had stayed awake were playing table tennis. Those who were sleeping seemed reluctant to rise and shine for some reason. Breakfast was tea and toast followed (for the leaders and the older ones in the group at least) by the big clear up.
