I know Dave has kindly provided the notes this week but I could not let today pass without saying something. We have been on a journey through Luke’s Gospel, it’s the biggest book in the New Testament containing more than 24,000 words, it has taken us 114 days and today we have reached the end. Well done if you have read every day, particularly if it’s your first attempt at reading the Bible. I know it is difficult to begin with and hard to know where to start but our aim has been to make reading the Bible accessible. Research suggests it takes around 66 days to form a habit so my prayer is that we will form good habits and read the Bible on a daily basis.
It is always difficult to start new things and impossible to forecast whether people will buy in to a new venture. I have been really encouraged by the way people have become involved and been genuinely thrilled by the thought of so many reading the same passages of Scripture. Thank you to all of the Guest Contributors, all of whom have very busy lives but still found the time to produce the notes. Thank you to those who have left comments (I think Paul deserves a special mention!) and those who have taken the trouble to like or subscribe.
I have personally been very challenged by some of the posts from the Contributors and even though going into this felt I had a reasonable grasp of Luke’s Gospel, I have been reduced to tears many times as I have thought again of God’s great love for human beings demonstrated at the cross.
As Dave has already mentioned, we are going to begin a new book tomorrow; the Book of Acts or maybe we should call it Luke Part 2! We are going to see that God’s work did not finish with the Ascension, It goes on with his Spirit at work in his Church and if we are willing; in us!
