Its Colossians 4:2-6 today and the notes have been supplied by Graham and Julie Rowe.
Prayer; that dreaded challenge. So often challenged having for the most part one sided conversations, with a God we can’t see & rarely, if ever, audibly hear a response. Sometimes it can seem our prayers get no further than a brass ceiling & other times we can have amazing times sensing truly close fellowship as we build our relationship with God in prayer through the Lord Jesus Christ. Once again the passion & urgency of Paul calls for devotion. Prayer shouldn’t just be a chore or a rushed duty so we can feel we have ticked the box called prayer; Paul calls for devotion. If we are fully devoted to something we will spend significant time & resources pursuing that devotion. Paul exhorts us to that standard. Paul also requests prayer for the team he is with so that the Gospel of Christ will be preached clearly. As said many times in these notes before we may be the only Bible people may read. So we are called to be wise, use opportunities, graceful in conversation, knowing how to answer everyone.
One of the amazing things I have noticed when I pray for opportunities to share with others, they seem to crop up!! But how often have I missed the open doors through worrying I might upset or offend someone. So Paul encourages us how to respond being clear & wise responding to opportunities as they arise, being graceful & flavoursome.
Lord, help me to spend more time with you to strengthen & build our relationship. Help me to pray with those closest to me & the family you have placed me in so that your gospel can be shared through the open doors you give me. Amen
