Thoughts
Jesus said “I am the Light of the World He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life”. Pharisees again challenge Jesus: “You bear witness of yourself; your witness is not true” But Jesus is totally confident of where He has come from and on what authority He has come with which the Pharisees cannot counter. The place of being settled and secure in one’s identity is a wonderful pattern for believers today. A second witness is brought forward by Jesus: “I am One who bears witness of me, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me” God the Father also testified that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God and God the Son. The Pharisees really demonstrate their ignorance and unwillingness to explore fully and openly the claims of Jesus and just don’t get it. Jesus clearly talks of the 2 ways to die in your sins and separation from God for all eternity or in the light and the promise of eternity in the presence of Jesus. The Pharisees are really getting exasperated “Who are you” they just don’t get it or are not willing to take Jesus at His word. The Pharisees may have known the “rules” in debating theological niceties but Jesus would demonstrate that he was truly the Son of God by His obedience to His, father and to death on the cross to make a way back to God.
Reflections
Will we really walk in the Light of Jesus and follow Him despite what others may say or sneer at us in disbelief. Will we take Jesus at His word? Peter when challenged to leave him said in John 6:68 ‘to whom shall we go you have the words of eternal life’, we have come to believe and know that you are the Holy one of God.
Prayer
Lord Jesus increase our trust and faith in your finished work on the cross and help us to stand up for your word and truth as we live for you in our day to day lives. Amen
